Rajesh Chand
Painter, Sculptor and Art Writer
Born in 1969, Jamshedpur, India
About
Rajesh Chand is a contemporary Indian painter known for his thought-provoking and symbolic artworks. Born in 1969 in Jamshedpur, India, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in 1991. His work often explores themes of human existence, peace, and societal issues, using a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic, charcoal, and watercolor on both canvas and paper.
Chand has been active in the art world since the early 1990s, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions across India. Some notable solo shows include his 1991-92 exhibition in Patna, while his group exhibitions feature events like “Rainbows in the Sun” at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2008), and various shows at the India Habitat Centre and Rabindra Bhawan. He has also been involved in several art camps, including those organized by NCZCC Allahabad (1988), EZCC Kolkata (1997), and Delhi Tourism (2004), showcasing his engagement with the broader artistic community.
His paintings often carry deep metaphorical meanings. For instance, in “Balance of Peace,” he depicts a joker—symbolizing a common man—balancing a flowerpot and a globe, set against a chessboard with destructive elements like tanks and anthrax powder, reflecting on humanity’s struggle for harmony amid chaos. Another work, “Enjoy on Hot Box,” portrays an educated man smoking on a matchbox in the middle of a road, critiquing the misuse of talent and its impact on the world.
